Are you ready Irish? Troy is!

The big game is fast approaching and I must say - I think the Irish have a fighting chance this year...
I have an Irish friend that says - she doesn't drink until Notre Dame scores a touchdown. I would like to say I am glad USC has contributed to her abstinence for the past two years. In fact, the last time my friend has been able to enjoy a tall cold one – November 25, 2006. I believe this year, she will be able to hop off the wagon and have a beer or two.
It should be closer than the last 2 years (total score 76 -3). In fact, during the current streak – the not-so-Fighting Irish defense has given up at least 34 plus points every year…this year, I think that streak ends… Also, I think the offense will score more than 3 points – so enjoy – scoring a touchdown or two on Saturday – don’t be drinking any hot liquids and if you have a heart condition – please have all emergency contacts near by. (I will admit I am curious what the spread will be…it should be less than 35…)
I have seen parts of the Notre Dame games – and I must admit there has been improvement this year. I am not sure why they haven’t received alittle more respect in the national rankings (at least crack the Top 25) – and Jimmy looks real good, he should be in any Heisman discussion. What happen to the national media being in love with little leprechauns from South Benny? Just a note – I do believe USC is highly over-rated this year, but the next few years look good as the defense has reloaded and the QB (including Offense Coordinator) will have a year under their belt.
I still struggle with your jolly coach and some of his strategy - sometimes, it appears the team wins despite him. For those of you in the Southern California area; last week the local paper (LA Times) listed the teams that were overrated and underrated. Notre Dame was on both lists – they wrote Notre Dame could be 5-0, and they could be 1-4 (the Nevada game was the one victory). It appears the luck of the Irish is shining bright on the Golden Domers. By the way – was there a “Bush-Push” in one of those victories…I believe so…
In my opinion, this is your year to upset the men of Troy. It’s a slight window of opportunity – but the perfect storm is there – right for the taking. Rookie QB, inconsistent offense, new offense coordinator that hasn’t been able to call a decent game that lasts four quarters. Common opponents: the Blue and Gold beat Washington - and Washington beat USC.
Notre Dame is at home, playing well – and please, don’t wear the green jerseys for motivation – do you really need that cheesy gimmick to motivate the boys? Playing your rival should be enough – and trying to break the seven year itch would be another. Also – no four-leaf clovers, lucky charms, shelele’s and that creepy molester of a mascot…
The Irish offense should be able to move against USC – the SC rush defense is good – but the pass defense is vulnerable – playing into Jimmy’s strengths. I love Golden Tate – he can do everything and that golly green giant Tight End (#9) – he always seems to be in the right place, at the right time – I see matchup problems in your favor.
I will visit my favorite pub – Silky’s Sullivan’s. Last year, it was packed with the green envy faithful – but they really did have much too much to cheer - wait, I do recall a hip hip hooray when the field goal spilt the uprights… it was hard to root for the Men of Troy because it wasn’t a fair fight…
Your window of opportunity is this year, if you don’t take advantage of it – you might have to endure the losing streak gaining more momentum …
Enjoy the game – and oh, one more thing… Fight On!
