Charlie Weis swindled Notre Dame from day #1
CW knew exactly what he was going to do, since the day he became Notre Dame's head football coach.
1. CW left a highly successful NFL team (New England Patriots) to become the head coach of a moribund college football team. Why would he do that? Money!!!!
2. CW promised the world would, once again, be Notre Dame's oyster. He did over and over again, from day #1. Remember, 6-5, nor 6-6, is not good enough. The implication was that Notre Dame would win national championships. He's as slick as Tricky Dick ever hoped to be!
4. CW totally disregarded Notre Dame's history of being a run-oriented team and stubbornly relied 80% on a passing game that is not built for college. He got away with his "schematic advantage" the first two years simply because it was a novelty act - much like what you see at a Russian circus.
5. CW played Notre Dame for all he could after his signature win. Oops, my bad. I meant signature close win - against USC in 2005. Notre Dame nearly bankrupted itself in the process.
6. CW recruited Jimmy "Golden Boy" Clausen to run his passing game. How did he get Clausen to commit to the Irish? The promise of future $$$$$ in the pros, as CW would mold JC into the next Heisman winner and future #1 draft pick.
7. The quarterback controvery before the 2007 season was a complete sham. There was never any intention to play anyone, other than JC, once the dust settled after the first few games. This "controversy" just helped propel CW and Jimmy into becoming household names.
8. CW refused to run a balanced offense because it would jeopardize his ultimate plan, which is highlighed in my next point. CW needed to showcase Jimmy to the NFL every opportunity he could. Therefore, the decision was made to pass, pass, pass.
9. CW knew the collective bargaining agreement would cause elite college players to leave early for the upcoing NFL draft. That is why he had to work with Jimmy, day and night, to mold him into an NFL first round draft pick.
10. CW will now leave Notre Dame with millions in his billfold, a future NFL first round draft pick in Jimmy Clausen, and become Clausen's offensive coordinator in the pros.
When you think about it long enough, you realize that all of the above is true and that CW really is smarter than you.
