2010 Blue Gold Game Review... my thoughts...you know the ones that matter

Some semi-random thoughts from the game today.
- The line for Nelson's chicken was almost as long as the line to get into the stadium... (which was long)
- Went to the Monogram Club tailgate. Met a OG under Devine and he was kind enough to let BC see his NC ring
- He also told me that Rudy talked to Divine about the Rudy movie and told him before hand that he would be protrayed as the protaganist per Hollywood and Divine still gave him his blessing. Class act.
- Kratzer loves Nate Montana....he isn't scared to say so.
- Montana showed himself today to be as capable as Matt Lovechio or Pat Dillingham
- Rocco (from the forum) was in attendance. I said Hi to my main man from Harrisburg. He said there are two kids at McDevitt HS ripe for the picking and ND-type kids. Good kids, good grades, great athletes but that no one from the new staff has been there yet. Chop chop boys.
- There were no pigs in attendance today which was a little disappointing
- I was unable to sneak into the gold seats two years in a row which was also disappointing. I should have tried Jem's line about being a veteran.
- We have also decided that ND is creeping out the jumbotron on its fans. Last year we upgraded from the single white light scoreboard to the colored lights scoreboard. This year they are now HD video screens but still small. Uh oh.
- Oh, do you want to hear about the players and the team? Okay, here goes:
- There were a few players out there that looked like square pegs in the transition from Weis to Kelly
- Kelly split up the first and second teams a bit for the game. It made for some good matchups
- Before the game for about 5 seconds they flashed a graphic "lead by head coach Charlie Weis" on the mini-tron. Oops
- Mike Collins left the crowd just about deaf on his booming welcome to the stadium. Apparenlty a sound check was on the same to do list as changing the coach's name
- I don't think you will see ND recruit any bruising tailbacks or fullbacks anytime soon. Gray and especially Hughes will struggle to fit into this new system IMO
- Where is Kerry Neal?
- Manti looked awesome
- Rudolph looked awesome
- Ragone is playing without a knee brace and looked good.
- Kelly ran out of the tunnel....somewhere OC was smiling
- Tai-lor Jones looks good but our receving corp IS DEEP. THe kid is only 17. I would be tempted to redshirt him. Kamara, Evans, Goodman, Walker, Ragone, Toma, Gallup, Riddick and oh yeah and a guy named Floyd.
- I like Shaq Evans.
- I of course like Floyd
- I miss Tate
- Our kickers missed two extra points today.
Wish I could say that was remarkable at ND. - They sold Ben's pretzels inside the stadium. That is a good sign. They are some pretty good soft pretzels...from the heart of Amish country.
- Saw Vegas Ferguson
- The new camera on the field will probably be pretty cool. It was a bit distracting watching it fly around but you sort of get used to it.
- They are doing some concrete work and replacing some bleachers on the east side of the stadium.
- Cierra Wood looks good
- Finally some depth on the DL but I think we will still be without a superstar.
- Mike Golic played a little offense gaurd today. His dad and uncle were great players for the Irish.
- A
on this year's leprecaun. Criteria? He looks like one - I am a big fan of the alumni band. It is like you threw together sixty people from the street that just so happened to be able to jam
- It rained a bit. I got wet
- My son was disappointed to see USC on the schedule.
- Utah is on our schedule this year. That should make for a good game.
- I put in for two tickets to the Army game at Yankee stadium in this year's season ticket lottery...but that really doesn't have anything to do with this game.
- Overall I can't say that I was WOWED with our squad which I suppose is too be expected since they are transitioning between coaches.
- It was weird to not have Jimmy or Golden on the
field. My five-year-old son was sad. - We were going to get some Nelson's chicken after the game since the line was too long before the game. They were sold out which caused my son to chant:
"Boo Nelsons.........no chicken"
Chanted to the cheer: "Go Irish......beat Michigan (sucks) - I have to recommend the spring game to all. It makes the offseason go by MUCH faster. Sure it is just the spring game, but it helps take the edge off of the off-season Jones.
